Dragon's Dogma 2 How to Get to Battahl

Dragon's Dogma 2 secret quest giver and secret boss Sphinx

Getting into Battahl may seem confusing at first. There are a few different methods for getting there early, but most of them require dealing with a significant amount of challenging enemies standing in your path or progressing with the main quest potentially further than you wish to. This guide will show you how to get there early.

Method 1: Flying

Flying to Battahl may seem like a strange suggestion, but it is nonetheless very possible. First, follow my guide on how to find the secret quest-giving Sphinx here, and complete her first five riddles. When you complete the fifth riddle, the Sphinx will state that she is going to relocate, and hopes to see you in the new location. That would involve game progression and a whole lot of effort finding the Frontier Shrine, but there's a quicker way to go about that. Climb aboard!

Very quickly, and before the Sphinx flies away, run forward and jump up, grabbing a hold of the Sphinx before it leaves. She will go high into the air and there will be a lengthy flight to her new location. You won't be able to hold on for the whole flight, but if you readjust your position to her back, then for most of the flight you can just stand there not holding on. Just be careful for if she begins to dip - you will need to grab on there, or fall to your death.

The new location will be the Frontier Shrine. Leaving the shrine and navigating down the cliffs will place you in Battahl, and you can carefully carry on south to get access to some of the best merchants in the game. You can even scurry further south and unlock the Magick Archer vocation from Volcanic Island if you wish!

Method 2: Walking

This method is longer, and much more difficult, but will get you there. You will either need to be a high enough level to contend with the difficult monsters you will encounter along the way, or be willing and smart enough to run past them to navigate the long road to Battahl.

When you go to the Checkpoint Rest Town far west of Vermund, you will discover that the large door that leads to Battahl is locked. You can instead go beneath the bridge and follow the river, which will lead you through a very long route around to the west and then south through mountain passes and caves. There will be a plethora of enemies in your way along with powerful bosses such as the Chimera, Ogre and Minotaur. Be careful and move swiftly if you're trying for early access to Battahl.

Method 3: Get Permission

As you progress with the main questline, you will eventually be required to get to Battahl anyway. This will be a fair bit later in from the start, but the quest line will take you all the way to the main town and then all the way down to Volcanic Island, covering most of the important points of interest.

You will gain an item in your inventory that serves as permission to cross the blocked door in the Checkpoint Rest Town, and that will lead you down the road into Battahl, although you will still have to contend with a lot of difficult enemies until you get to a point you can rest at, so be wary of that.
